This past week several new
viruses
threats have been discovered.
The first is being called Witty Worm.
Witty Worm targets specific
software-based firewalls like
BlackIce.
While this worm causes actual hardware
damage by overwriting random parts of
the computer’s disk, it will primarily
damage ISPs and web hosting services.
Variants of Netsky
and Beagle have been seen. These
viruses have their own email engine and
will search infected computers for email
addresses in outlook or other
locations. Another new virus called
PhatBot/AgoBot
has the ability to gather confidential
information and many other things. A
complete list of
PhatBot’s abilities can be found
at
LURHQ.
Both Norton Anti-Virus and MacAfee have
new virus definitions available to
detect these and many other new viruses.
Microsoft has also announced updates to
its Windows, Messenger and Office
products. Be sure to have
AutoUpdate
enabled on all of your desktop
computers.
Also of note is the constant
bombardment of computers by pop-ups and
spy ware. There are several good
products out there to help clean these
programs off of computers.
